My Supa Life The It STINKS and I don't Like It Update

It's called a DS, and I don't like it. Whenever my eldest son and I go for a drive he always asks me a million questions about world history and science. I talk for so long that many times I'm hoarse when I come home from our little trips. For Xmas He got a DS, on a three hour car trip he said one thing to me at 2 hrs and 45 minutes, "Gee, I got a stiff neck."
"Could it be," I reply, "because you've been playing that DS for almost three hours?"
His response was silence
.
Where were the questions about Hitler and WWI, the American revolution and the Invention of the light bulb? I hope they aren't gone forever.
The Nintendo DS STINKS and I don't like it.

My Supa Life Triple Threat Update

There is a very talented web cartoonist named Tatsuya Ishida, he's been producing Sinfest for years and I've always admired his triptychs, three panels three characters, all saying one world of a complete statement. The whole effect is similar to the experience you get from flipping channels and making sense out of the snippets of dialogue. Today's strip is my first attempt at such a triptych of my own. Thanks to Tatsuya Ishida for the inspiration.

My Supa Life The Scientific League of Scientists Update

The latest update to My Supa Life has been posted.
The Scientific League of Scientists had another successful meeting last night, Dr. Sauron (age 8) and Dr. Logan (age 3) designed and built a method of dropping a whole pack of Mentos into a soda bottle at the same time. The test was a triumph of scientific know-how and the desire to see twelve foot geysers of exploding cola. Congratulations to all our members, and to those who don't like Science we say, "NUTS TO YOU."

My Supa Life the I Doubt If Anyone Will Get This Gag Update

The Latest Update For My Supa Life is Live.

My Supa Life the Daring Dutchman Update

I love making comics and reading comics too but most of the time I find myself just incredibly frustrated at the majority of comics out there but every once in a while I find a comic book that gets it. I love it when comic books get it. Stories need to be concise and fun, not reality shattering "events" that drag on for months or years at a time. If you like the kind of comics you you used to read as a kid, you know the kind of book that made you like comics in the first place, check out the first issue of Strange from Marvel.

My Supa Life the Style Update

The Friday Update of My Supa Life is up.

I love finding new comics that are fun to read and look like the creator is having a ball making them.

There are styles and then there are styles. Please take a look at The Princess and the Giant, a webcomic with a great style and excellent cartoon acting. It's sweet and charming and well worth a look.

My Supa Life Spooky Update

This morning my youngest wakes me up at 5am, "Daddy, I have a secret to tell you." he pads over quiet as can be and whispers, "When you sleep, a bad thing comes out of you, a bad thing that has to be destroyed." then he turns around and walks back to his room. How the hell am I supposed to get back to sleep after that?!

My Supa Life Monday Update: t-shirt worthy?

All fixed! I just installed the new OS and it had a problem with my favorite FTP software, but a little song, and a little dance and now it's all working.

My Supa Life Monday Update: t-shirt worthy?

Monday's My Supa Life Update is slightly delayed due to technical issues. I'll let you all know when it's up.

When it comes to great web content for creative types John K's Bloghas to be one of the best resources out there. You can imagine my shock when suddenly his blog went to "invite only" status, and me without an invite. John K's blog is back up temporarily I strongly recommend that you all head over there and flip through his blog entries, John K covers everything from writing to design to jive Hollywood bullshit. Take a look before it's too late.

My Supa Life and Luv

Eleven years ago, this weekend I married the girl of my dreams, some people search their whole lives for true love. I just walked into an elevator and there it was.

The new update for My Supa Life is posted.

My Supa Life Monday Update!

I'm not sure if the composition of this strip works for me- feels a bit like it was "shot-in-a-shoe-box" the static POV is probably what's nagging me, but I'm not sure if the gag would have worked without the set up of the preceding panels to show the change in Hyperian's expression as he hears his wife get captured. Maybe I just need to be a better cartoon actor.

My Supa Life Friday Update!

Friday's My Supa Life update has been posted.
My five year old son told me he knew how to ask girls out. "Really?" I responded, "And how do you ask a girl out?" "Depends on the girl, you just have to figure a way to work it into what you're talking about. Like if we're talking about Star Wars I would tell her my favorite character was Obi Wanna Go On A Date."
I'm totally stealing that. Kids have the best writers.

The Switch-Up: New Format New Website

OK, The year long comic experiment is over, of my three comics titles, 100% BAD, Darwinism and My Supa Life, My Supa Life had the most page views and new visitors so I will be updating My Supa Life exclusively now. Before anyone gets upset that they'll never see another 100%BAD or Darwinism comic again don't be- they are going on hiatus they are not cancelled (I've got too much written and love them too much to forget all about them). I just want to do the comic that I love AND the most people are interested in reading.
So with out further adieu...
Back in the saddle again, now with my own web page. I'm going to be updating "My Supa Life" three times a week (M,W,F) so I've switched to a strip format instead of a full page. For all of you that have come back after my too long break, thanks, and I hope you all like the nav buttons and everything, I'm updating the new site design and content, a cast page should be ready soon.
I'll still be blogging on the Full Swing Blog but all the comics are shifting over to the Swing Shift Studios website.

Darwinism Page 20 is Posted (Finally)

The season of Lazy is over, I hope. I've been dying to get back to making comics and now the newest page of Darwinism is posted.
I've been checking up on the analytics for my comics and there appears to be a clear leader in site traffic, I won't say which one yet but I'm going to be announcing the winner of the "Which Web Comic Should I Do Contest" at the one year anniversary of my plunge in to making the funny out of electrons here on the internets. The winner becomes my on going comic with regular updates and the other two will go into hiatus.

Jeremy "Sweetwater" Mullins Rest In Peace

The comics educator, podcast creator and webcomics cartoonist Jeremy Mullins has passed away, according to several alumni and those of an awareness of that program. He died on Saturday from multiple injuries while climbing in the Catskills near Kaaterskill Falls. Mullins held an MFA from the sequential art department at Savannah College Of Art And Design (SCAD), where he won an outstanding thesis award in 2005 for his "Digital Delivery and the Empowerment of the Sequential Artist" and where he would teach.

I did not know Jeremy "Sweetwater" Mullins personally but I just have to say how deeply saddened I am to hear of his passing. Jeremy and the homies at Seqa Lab are a big part of the reason why I started posting comics on the web, I've listened to their twice weekly podcast "SEQALab" for over a year now and was always inspired by the love for the craft of making comics that he passed on to all those around him. If you'd like to see his work check out his Journal Comic and visit the archive at the SEQA Lab website.

Darwinism Page 19 Posted

Page 19 of Darwinism has been posted!
Yes I'm back, finally- I've missed making comics so much, there were nights where I was like, "I could just make a few panels then get right back to making this site," but I knew that if I did that then I'd never go back to making the site and just loose myself upon all my pent-up drawing desires.

Well anyways, Hope you all come back to read the new stuff.

Page 20 of 100% BAD has been uploaded.

Webcomics Weekend is only about a week away and I must say that I'm very excited about going. I only wish I had more time these days to work on my comics, I'm doing another website design this week and it's a pain, nice design for nice folks but still a pain when it comes to time management.

Wait a minute, what's that sound? OK who called the WAAAH-mbulance?

Enjoy your comics everyone and I hope to see some of you at the Webcomics Weekend.

100% BAD Page 19 is Now Online

Page 19 of 100% BAD is now uploaded, Wow talk about a wall of text, next page I'll have to toss in some action!
Maybe a car driving through boxes?

I'll figure something out, any ways I'm feeling better today.

Of course my doctor did prescribe penicillin to me after I told him I'm deadly allergic to penicillin. Only took him four days to realize his mistake and call me to warn me not to take the medicine. Good thing I could tell his level of ability while I was there and never filled his script otherwise there might be a bunch of comic fans going, "Now how come he don't post?"

Doctors, they think they walk on water because they go to school for 8 years- all that means is they're good at being a student, don't make him a good doctor.

Next time the wife accuses me of procrastination I'll have to remind her of how it saved my life. HAW!

Page 18 of 100% BAD is now online,  I've been fighting a bad cold. The doctor said that any illness I get after having pneumonia would knock me on my butt, I hate it when people who went to school longer than me are right.
Stuck up college-boy!

Darwinism Page 16 is Posted

Page 16 of Darwinism is finally done- what is it with Page 16 that gives me such trouble. In every book page 16 kills me. I draw, redraw, draw again, and still it's not coming together. Oh well, it's done now. Onwards and upwards!

Thursday, January 22, 2009

My Supa Life Page 16 Posted

Page 16 of My Supa Life has been posted, finally!

Why is it that the pages that seem like they should be the simplest always take the longest to complete. Like this page, it's just talking right? Simple right? WRONG!

Oh well, enjoy the new page, even though it took me a while to finish I still enjoyed making it. Isn't art great like that, it's like a joy inside of you, that's torture getting out of you but once it's out it gets to be a joy again. Like babies. Now it won't stop crying.

Please stand by

Sorry for the long silences everyone but I've had to do some Bread and Butter freelance work before making any more comics I'm hoping to get back to updates next week.
